WE NEED YOUR HELP The Bayville Volunteer Fire Company is seeking donations from our community during our annual fund drive. Your assistance has allowed us to offer totally free ambulance service throughout the years, despite escalating costs associated with vehicle maintenance and the upgrading of equipment. Our ambulance is staffed by volunteers who are state certified in Advanced and Basic Life Support skills. Your help also allows us to purchase giveaway items for our fire prevention program. YOUR CONTRIBUTION IS TAX DEDUCTIBLE!
WE ARE THERE FOR YOU For 365 days a year - 24 hours a day, the officers and members of the Bayville Fire Company proudly serve the communities of Bayville Centre Island and Mill Neck - as we have for the past 87 years. We protect you from real-life emergencies. Fire, of course, but we are also the first-on-the-scene for medical calls, auto accidents, gas leaks and carbon monoxide leaks. We are a vital part of the region disaster planning and any other unforeseen event. Our members are certified to National Incident Management Standards. COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS We are again proud to inform you that our fire company will be led by Chief Robert Plummer, First Assistant Theodore Parente and Second Assistant Chief Dennis Kelly. This year, we are on pace to respond to over 800 calls for service. This is compared to approximately 500 calls last year and with fewer members. We recently instituted a new Fire Police Unit at the fire company, made up of experienced ex-chiefs and company officers. It will allow us to keep residents at a safe distance from emergency scenes, to inform them of what is happening and to work with Police Units to handle traffic control. Members are state certified and have peace office status when directed by the Chief’s office. VOLUNTEERS SERVING OUR COMMUNITY 24 HOURS A DAY, 365 DAYS A YEAR EQUIPMENT: Recently, we sold some older equipment and used the proceeds to assist with the purchase of a new Rescue Truck, #504. This truck will greatly enhance our rescue capabilities at car accidents, fires and is a true multi-purpose vehicle that will serve our residents for many years. It was an honor for us to showcase this vehicle at the Nassau County Coliseum Fire Department Truck & Equipment show in January, 2009. TRAINING: Since emergencies can happen at any time, our members often answer the alarm in the middle of the night. They also have families, jobs and personal commitments. As a courtesy to the community, our whistle system does not operate after 10 p.m., unless there is a major fire. Please yield the right of way whenever you see a flashing blue light. We drill at the firehouse, practice water rescues at our beaches and motor vehicle accident training at Center Island Beach. We also work with Sewanhaka Yacht Club, United Cerebral Palsy Center and Jones Manor on aided cases and emergency evacuations. We also train with our surrounding Fire Companies and at Nassau County Fire Service Academy to update and refine our skills. FIRE PREVENTION: We have an annual open house where residents can come in, meet the members and be given oral and written information on our programs. We have activities for adults and children and special guest appearances. Our members also visit schools in the area and explain fire safety to the children and teachers, and the importance of having an emergency plan in place with their parents and caregivers. Members are also available on Sunday mornings, in case you have any questions. We are here for you and your families 24/7, 365 days a year.
